On January 13, AmCham Shanghai hosted a conversation with APCO Worldwide’s global CEO, Brad Staples, who outlined the rise of new nationalism and its impact on the business community. During the event, Staples noted that the election of Donald Trump and Brexit were not isolated incidents and represented the rise of nationalism across the globe and its rejection of the currently accepted world order. Staples also noted that American businesses still have work to do to explain how their successes in China benefit the people in the United States. The session, led by AmCham Shanghai President, Kenneth Jarrett, concluded with a Q&A session where members were able to ask questions around the rise of fake news and how American companies can better adapt to the new environment post-election, among others.
